About

Divya is a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Above all, she is a community worker and leader.

Divya moved to Toronto from Mumbai, India in 1997. As a new immigrant in Toronto, Divya worked part-time in the evening after her husband returned from work and would take care of their daughter. A hard working and honest individual, she is a strong believer in civic responsibility and volunteer work. During her initial years in North York, she volunteered to help children learn to read in Fairview Library in the Lead to Read Program.

A citizen who lives in the neighbourhoodShe has a degree in Mathematics and physics. She worked for ten years in the financial
services industry in various positions including Branch manager responsible for business
conduct and sales practices and training. Her hobbies include reading and writing
and she has recently published her first book, Naurag the Beginning an adventure
           fantasy for young adults.

A few major changes in the community and transit development inspired her to
get involved in community engagement. Working hard with a few dedicated
residents, Divya organized a local association and is currently the President of the
Brian Village Association (BVA). In response to the public transit debate, close to
2000 signatures in support of an underground subway extension on Sheppard
Avenue were collected by Divya and numerous BVA members and submitted to the
     Ward 33 councillor.

“A citizen who lives in the neighbourhood understands pressing issues and can better
represent local concerns. Building strong and safe neighbourhoods is an essential priority for me. Our kids live, learn, play, and go to school here. If something is wrong, unjust, silence should not be an option. This is our community so it is up to us to stand up and make the difference. As said by Gandhi – Be the change that you wish to see.” - Divya Nayak
